Final meeting - Libyan Chief of Staff al-Hadded seen in meeting with Turkish counterpart hours before death in Ankara air tragedy

"Libyan Chief of Staff Mohamed Ali al-Haddad was seen meeting with Turkish Chief of the General Staff Selcuk Bayraktaroglu, just hours before al-Haddad and his delegation were killed in an air crash while departing the Turkish capital. Footage shows an official reception ceremony, complete with honour guard, as the two military officials salute before proceeding toward the General Staff headquarters. Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid al-Dbeibah issued a statement announcing the deaths of al-Haddad and his delegation, including Lieutenant General Al-Fayturi Gharibil, Chief of Staff of the Ground Forces; Brigadier General Mahmoud al-Qatiwi, Director of Military Manufacturing; Mohammed al-Asawi Diab, advisor to the Chief of Staff; and Mohammed Omar Ahmed Mahjoub, a photographer at the General Staff Media Office. Al-Dbeibah said the deaths were the result of “a tragic and painful accident while returning from an official visit to Ankara.” Turkish media quoted the country’s interior minister as saying that contact had been lost with a private aircraft carrying five people, including al-Haddad. “We received a report from the aircraft requesting an emergency landing in the Haymana area near Ankara, but contact could not be re-established afterward,” the minister said. On Tuesday, al-Haddad had held talks in Ankara with Turkish Defence Minister Yasar Guler and Chief of the General Staff Selcuk Bayraktaroglu, focusing on military cooperation between Libya and Turkey.
