Dar reviews strategy on GSP Plus status continuation

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting to review Pakistan’s strategy for the continuation of its GSP Plus status with the European Union, underscoring the scheme’s critical importance for the country’s exports and broader economic stability. According to an official statement, the Secretary Commerce gave a detailed presentation outlining the steps taken by the government to meet the criteria prescribed by the EU for the continuation of GSP Plus status. He also briefed the meeting on outcomes and observations related to the recent visit of the EU Review Mission to Pakistan. The Deputy Prime Minister sought updates from all federal and provincial departments on the implementation status of their assigned responsibilities linked to GSP Plus benchmarks. He directed all concerned institutions to ensure full and timely implementation of government policies in letter and spirit to safeguard Pakistan’s preferential trade access to the EU market. The meeting was attended by the Ministers for Law and Commerce; Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa; federal secretaries of Foreign Affairs, Commerce, Human Rights, Law, Climate Change, and Overseas Pakistanis; as well as heads of relevant federal and provincial departments.
