"Capybaras were seen chilling in a traditional hot bath with yuzu citrus at Izu Shaboten Zoo in Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture, on Tuesday. Footage shows the capybaras relaxing in the steamy, yuzu-filled bath prepared by zoo staff, as visitors delightedly watched and captured the animals on their devices. "I didn't realise they would like hot water so much and come in soaking in it, so I was surprised to learn that capybaras really love hot springs," expressed one of the visitors. According to zoo staff, the hot spring bath is a traditional winter solstice event, with yuzu added to help keep the capybaras' skin moisturised. "We put yuzu in the capybaras' open-air baths around the season of the winter solstice, and offer yuzu baths to prevent the capybaras from catching colds and to help them stay healthy throughout the year," explained zookeeper Hosomi. This tradition has been a part of the zoo since 1982, and it takes place annually from November to April. The zoo's capybara hot baths continue to attract thousands of visitors from around the world, offering a unique and delightful experience for animal lovers during the colder months."
