The Health Bureau is expanding the availability of the "Cross-boundary Health Record" function in Hong Kong's eHealth app to all 6.3 million registered users of the mobile application. This service, previously offered only to Elderly Health Care Voucher Scheme recipients, now allows the general public to securely share their electronic health records with designated medical institutions across the border. In a statement, the bureau said the move is aimed at enhancing the continuity of care for Hong Kong residents, particularly for those seeking medical services within the Greater Bay Area. Starting immediately, users can apply via the eHealth app to share their medical records from the past three years before visiting any of the 20 participating medical institutions across the border. Upon application, users will instantly receive, via the app, an application QR code and a password QR code. The bureau said presenting these codes to healthcare professionals at a designated institution grants secure, temporary access that allows its medics to browse health records through a dedicated web browser to help them in diagnostics and treatment. "The extension of the 'Cross-boundary Health Record' function to all Hong Kong citizens marks a significant milestone in advancing cross-boundary healthcare collaboration," said a spokesperson. "We will continue to take forward the sharing of cross-boundary medical records in an orderly manner, with a view to supporting citizens' cross-boundary healthcare needs more effectively." The bureau stressed that the rollout adheres strictly to the legal frameworks in both Hong Kong and the mainland, with data security and patient privacy upheld as paramount principles throughout the process.
