Heavy liftoff! - India launches six-tonne BlueBird Block-2 satellite

"The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched the BlueBird Block-2 satellite of US-based AST SpaceMobile onboard its heavy-lift launch vehicle, LVM3-M6, from Andhra Pradesh state's Sriharikota on Wednesday. Footage shows the lift-off as well as the excitement of visitors from across India, many of whom had travelled to Satish Dhawan Space Centre to witness the event. "I never thought in my entire life that I would be able to actually see it live happening. We are very proud of ISRO, very proud of India that it's sending 'Baahubali,' the heaviest satellite up in space. So, kudos (congratulations) to India," said Pooja, a visitor from Mumbai. After a flight of about 15 minutes, the Bluebird Block-2 was separated from the vehicle and it was successfully placed into its intended orbit, according to the space agency. The launch marks a major milestone for ISRO. Weighing approximately 6,100 kg, BlueBird Block-2 is the heaviest payload ever placed into Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and the heaviest satellite launched from Indian soil. "We got up at 3 o'clock and came here in the morning to see this rocket launch. The speciality of this rocket launch is the weightage. No other aircraft has done this before," said Suresh, a visitor from Chennai. The achievement was made possible by ISRO's heavy-lift LVM-3 rocket, popularly known as 'Baahubali'. With a lift-off mass of 640 tonnes, the vehicle earned its nickname by drawing comparisons with the powerful hero Baahubali from the blockbuster Indian film. The mission is being conducted under a commercial agreement between ISRO's commercial arm, NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), and the US-based company AST SpaceMobile, also known as AST & Science LLC."
