Paws for Claus - Russian Christmas parade brings Father Frost, Masha and the Bear to Mexico City's streets

"Mexico City's streets burst into color and celebration on Tuesday as members of the Russian community staged a Christmas parade, filling the capital with music, costumes and holiday cheer. Footage shows costumed performers leading the parade as Father Frost, Mother Winter, and the beloved duo Masha and the Bear. Snow Maidens, or Snegurochki, can be seen dancing and singing their way through the procession. "Why do we do it? So as not to lose our traditions. [...] So that our children who were born here in Mexico, who are already Mexican, do not forget where they come from," explained the man dressed as Father Frost. "[We do it so] that they do not lose family traditions, that they do not lose such beautiful Christmas traditions and in general Mexican traditions," he added. As of 2025, Mexico is home to an estimated 1,600 to 2,000 permanent Russian residents. The states with the largest concentrations of Russian immigrants are Quintana Roo, the State of Mexico and Sonora."
