Surge of ‘amihan’ felt in Metro Manila, other parts of PH

MANILA, Philippines — A Surge of cool, dry winds or the northeast monsoon, locally called ‘amihan’, would prevail over Metro Manila and other areas in the country, the state weather agency said on Thursday. In its 5 a.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that it has not spotted any weather disturbances entering the archipelago’s area of responsibility. It added that the cold wind from amihan is also affecting Ilocos Region, the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region, the rest of Cagayan Valley, the rest of Central Luzon, and the rest of CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), where partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains would be likely, weather specialist Robert Badrina said. Meanwhile, the easterlies—winds that pass through the Pacific Ocean and carry humid, warm weather—have been affecting the Bicol region and Northern Samar, where overcast skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms occur within 24 hours, Badrina said. The same weather system would also be experienced over the rest of the country, where partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms prevail, according to Pagasa.
