"A demonstration took place on Tuesday in support of the M23 movement in the Democratic Republic of Congo's Bukavu, a city under the group's control. A reported 2,000 people gathered at Bukavu City Hall, marching for peace, amid similar rallies in other cities in the country's troubled East, including Goma and Uvira. Organisers and protesters shared their messages to international and regional organisations and the authorities in Kinshasa. “We are calling on the United Nations Security Council to adopt urgent resolutions in order to effectively support a clear mandate," explained one. "We also ask the African Union to position itself effectively in the peace process, so as to provide African solutions to African problems.” Since Bukavu and Goma were captured by M23 fighters, both cities have been attacked by Wazalendo pro-government militias. M23 supporters expressed their weariness over the continued violence amid the attacks on areas under the group's control. "You have noticed that there are marches everywhere in areas under our control. This clearly shows that the population is tired of insecurity, abuses, and poor governance,” said one. “All we want is peace. We say thank you for today, because we can move freely without fear. We thank the authorities because there is no harassment here," commented another demonstrator. M23 recently announced a withdrawal from the city of Uvira as a 'trust-building measure' amid international pressure. Congolese officials dismissed the move as a diversion, with some local sources reporting a continued M23 presence in the city. The seizure of Uvira just days before the peace Accords were signed had been described by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio as a 'clear violation'."
