Surge of 'amihan' brings cool weather to Metro Manila, other parts of PH

MANILA, Philippines — The surge of cool, dry winds or the northeast monsoon or "amihan" will prevail over Metro Manila and other areas, the state-run weather agency said on Thursday. This, as the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 5 a.m. advisory that it has not spotted any weather disturbance entering the archipelago’s area of responsibility. Affected areas included Ilocos Region, the rest of the Cordillera Administrative Region, the rest of Cagayan Valley, the rest of Central Luzon, and the rest of Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) where partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains would be likely, weather specialist Robert Badrina said. Meanwhile, the easterlies – winds that pass through the Pacific Ocean and carry humid, warm weather – have been affecting Bicol Region and Northern Samar where overcast skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms would occur in 24 hours, Badrina said. The same weather system will also be experienced over the rest of the country where partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms will prevail, the national weather bureau said.
