LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly convened on Wednesday to deliberate on several significant pieces of legislation, ultimately passing three draft bills with majority support while also celebrating the national cricket team’s recent triumph over India. The session, which began under the chairmanship of Panel Chairman Samiullah Khan with a delay of two hours and twenty-three minutes, saw the presentation of the draft law for the Regulation of Kite Flying Punjab 2025. In addition to the kite flying regulation, the assembly also considered the draft law for the Second Amendment Police Order 2025. Opposition member Waqqas Mann proposed an amendment to this bill, which was subsequently rejected by the majority. The draft law for the Amendment Agriculture, Food and Drug Authority Punjab 2025 similarly passed without any opposition amendments being presented. All three legislative proposals were brought before the house by Minister Rehman. The session took a celebratory turn when a resolution presented by assembly member Ahsan Raza, paying tribute to Pakistan’s Under Nineteen cricket team for their victory against India in the Asia Cup, was unanimously approved. The resolution expressed the house’s collective joy and pride, stating that the victory serves as living proof of the players’ professional capabilities and discipline. The text emphasized that after the Pakistan Armed Forces, the cricket team has raised the heads of the Pakistani nation with pride. The Punjab Provincial Assembly extended its congratulations to the entire Under Nineteen squad, including the captain, coach, and all players, while also noting that Pakistan had defeated India twice in 2025, first in battlefield operations in May and now on the cricket field. Addressing law and order concerns during the proceedings, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mian Mujtaba Shujau Rehman stated that the security situation in Punjab has improved significantly. He credited the Chief Minister of Punjab for taking unprecedented action against drug dealers and land grabbing groups, noting that there has been a substantial reduction in criminal activity under the Chief Minister’s vision. The minister emphasized that the bill in question had been thoroughly reviewed by the standing committee before being presented to the house, and government members voted to reject the opposition’s amendment. With no further amendments proposed by opposition members, the Second Amendment Police Order Punjab 2025 was approved by majority vote. When questioned about the state of hockey in the province, Provincial Minister Mian Mujtaba Shujau Rehman announced that the government has more than doubled the sports budget.
