Zeman expects 10-15pc sales boost over festive period

Lan Kwai Fong Group Chairman Allan Zeman says he expects a 10-15 per cent increase in sales this Christmas at his restaurants and bars. Appearing on RTHK's Backchat programme, he was asked which type of venues were seeing the most business. "Mid-price but mid-to-upper. A lot of companies are booking spaces and having banquets with their staff and that kind of thing. And then before, we had DJs and that kind of thing. Now it's more muted. You know, it's different. It's kind of low-key. A low-key approach. But it's still, you know, Christmas is here and, as you get closer to Christmas, more and more people come out." Zeman said the party area had been very busy last weekend, filled with expats and mainland tourists, although expats were fewer in number than before. Meanwhile, Fanny Yeung, Executive Director of the Travel Industry Council, told the same programme that inquiries and reservations for trips had also been picking up since last week. She said short-haul trips to the mainland, especially to the northern part of the country, as well as Hokkaido in Japan, were popular due to the snowy weather. As for tours within Hong Kong, Yeung said they were popular with the elderly, as many events - such as Christmas Town in Central and the Brands and Products Expo - offered transportation.
