'Honduras chose peace and transformation' - Celebrations erupt at National Party HQs in Tegucigalpa as Asfura wins presidential race

"Honduras' National Electoral Council on Wednesday officially proclaimed Nasry Asfura, the candidate of the National Party (PNH), as the winner of the presidential election held on November 30. The announcement sparked celebrations among Asfura's supporters at the National Party headquarters in Tegucigalpa, where cheers and applause erupted following the CNE's announcement. "On December 24, 2025, [Honduras] has a new president, and his name is Nasry Juan Asfura Zablah," said Maria Antonieta Mejia, First Presidentially Designate-elect. "Well, the Honduran people, since November 30, chose that they wanted to vote for peace, for transformation, and above all because we want to live in a place where we leave behind so much polarisation," said one of the supporters. According to the final count released by the National Electoral Council, Nasry Asfura secured 40.26 per cent of the valid vote, edging out Liberal Party contender Salvador Nasralla, who garnered 39.54 per cent. The official proclamation follows weeks of uncertainty and a protracted, technically complex tabulation process. The result seals the return of the National Party to executive power for the 2026–2030 term."
