"President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro celebrated the ‘Hallacazo’ alongside dozens of citizens, a traditional event that combines gastronomic elements to celebrate the Christmas season. The celebration took place this Tuesday in San Agustin del Sur, a neighbourhood of Caracas. Accompanied by the First Lady, Cilia Flores, Maduro stated that the US will not be able to defeat the Venezuelan people, explaining that he is a man of the people. "I have not been nor will I ever be a magnate. I am like you, a man of the street, an ordinary man, a man of the barrios. This is our school. That is why imperialism cannot defeat us," the leader said to those in attendance. During the event, the Venezuelan president played musical instruments, danced and sang alongside people of different ages, with whom he shared a Christmas dinner. In addition to wishing everyone a Merry Christmas, Maduro warned that he will not back down. "I will return very soon so that we can keep fighting, fighting, dancing, dancing and triumphing, triumphing. Long live the homeland!" he said before saying goodbye. El Hallacazo is celebrated in Venezuela from December 23 in communities such as San Agustin. As part of the tradition, families cook a dish to celebrate Christmas, known as 'hallaca', which consists of corn dough filled with a stew."
