"Christmas celebrations resumed in the West Bank city of Bethlehem on Wednesday, following a two-year hiatus during the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza. Footage shows scout groups, with young men, women and children marching through the streets and playing festive music as residents watch on. The video also captures the arrival of the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, who was seen greeting the crowd, while police officers secured the area. Local resident Arij Hawari expressed her joy at the return of the celebrations. “We wish you a Merry Christmas from the birthplace of Christ. May this holiday bring peace and love to us and to the Palestinian people. We invite the whole world to Palestine, because we are a peaceful and celebratory people who love all religions and sects,” she declared. Palestinian Police spokesperson Louai Arziqat said more than 700 officers and non-commissioned personnel were deployed to ensure the Patriarch’s safe arrival at Manger Square and the Church of the Nativity. “They will then provide security for the midnight mass, which is expected to be attended by consuls, ambassadors, and representatives from various countries,” he added. Christmas celebrations in Bethlehem include religious rituals such as midnight mass. Social traditions include decorated Christmas trees, the exchanging of gifts and sharing of special meals. "
