'We are ready... we are winning!' - Russian volunteer drone unit destroys Ukrainian equipment in Zaporozhye

"Soldiers from the Alania Volunteer Reconnaissance Detachment were shown destroying Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) equipment in the Zaporozhye region using drones. Footage released on Monday shows a drone operator guiding an unmanned aerial vehicle toward a military truck before detonating it on impact. Subsequent shots capture the vehicle engulfed in flames, reduced to burning wreckage. A serviceman identified by the call sign 'Sayan' said that each successful strike triggers a strong emotional reaction among the unit’s members. "We have a mission from our supreme commander to win, and we are winning," he said. "We have goals and we are achieving them. If anyone wants to compete with us, we are ready." The Alania Volunteer Reconnaissance Detachment was formed in March 2022 on the initiative of Sergei Menyaylo, head of Russia’s Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. The unit is currently carrying out combat missions in the Zaporozhye region. Moscow launched a military offensive in Ukraine in late February 2022 after recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), claiming that Kiev had failed to guarantee their special status under the 2014 Minsk Agreements, and urging Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral and give assurances that it would never join NATO. Kiev denounced the Russian action as an invasion. Volodymyr Zelensky imposed martial law throughout the country, announcing a general mobilisation, while the EU and the US imposed several rounds of sanctions on Moscow. The date of the footage released by the Russian Defence Ministry cannot be independently verified."
