"A person dressed as Santa Claus, known as 'Viejito Pascuero in Chile, sailed into Caleta de Portales in the coastal city of Valparaiso on Wednesday, delivering Christmas gifts to the children of local fishermen in a tradition that has endured for more than 50 years. Footage shows Viejito Pascuero arriving by boat across the bay, accompanied by companions dressed as the Grinch and elves, before reaching the shore where gifts were handed out to children gathered with their families. "We board, get on the boats already in costume. And we head out to sea, until we reach our beloved Caleta, all in costume, celebrating this beautiful tradition that, as I tell you, has been going on for many years, and it will continue. The idea is that it never ends," said Eduardo Torres, who portrayed Viejito Pascuero this year. Torres explained that the tradition has been passed down through generations of fishing families in the area. "This has been going on for many years, as I tell you, our grandparents, our parents, who were also fishermen, did it. Some of them are no longer with us due to life circumstances, and now it's our turn, the younger ones, to continue, as I tell you, with this beautiful tradition," he added. Beyond the maritime arrival of Viejito Pascuero, Christmas celebrations in Valparaiso also include parades along the bay and visits to hospitals, reinforcing the festive spirit across the port city."
