MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reminded private sector employers to pay the correct wages due their workers who will report to work on the declared regular holidays and special non-working day this December. Labor Secretary Bienve ido E, Laguesma on Thursday issued the reminder to ensure compliance with Labor Advisory (LA) 16 pursuant to Proclamation 727, which declares the holidays for 2025. The advisory prescribes that employees who will render work during the regular holidays on December 25 (Christmas Day) and December 30 (Rizal Day) and December are entitled to 200 percent of their wage for the first eight hours. Declared as regular holidays are Jan. 1 (New Year), April 9 (Day of Valor), April 17 (Maundy Thursday), April 18 (Good Friday), May 1 (Labor Day), June 12 (Independence Day), Aug. 25 (National Heroes Day), Nov. 30 (Bonifacio Day), Dec. 25 (Christmas Day), Dec. 30 (Rizal Day), and the dates commemorating Eidul Fitr, and Eidul Adha. If the employees will not report for work, they shall be paid 100 percent of their wage for that day, provided they worked or were on leave of absence with pay on the day immediately preceding the regular holiday. When the day immediately preceding the regular holiday is a non-working day in the establishment or the scheduled rest day of the employees, they shall be entitled to holiday pay if they worked or were on leave of absence with pay on the day immediately preceding the non-working day or rest day. Meanwhile, employees who will render overtime work shall be paid an additional 30 percent of their hourly rate on the said day. The computation is: hourly rate of the basic wage x 200 percent x 130 percent x the number of hours worked. Moreover, employees who will work on a regular holiday that also falls on their rest day shall be paid an additional 30 percent of the basic wage of 200 percent; while those who will render overtime work shall be paid an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate on the said day.
