ECP suspends local government polls in Quetta on court order

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday suspended local government election proceedings in Quetta district of Balochistan, scheduled to be held on December 28, 2025, in compliance with an order of the Federal Constitutional Court. According to an official notification issued by the ECP, the decision follows the court’s order dated December 24, 2025, in Constitutional Petition (C.P.L.A No. 153/2025), titled Qadir Shah s/o Suliman Shah versus Election Commission of Pakistan. LG polls in Quetta: ECP rejects Bugti’s plea seeking postponement The notification stated that election proceedings earlier notified under ECP Notification No. F.2(2)/2025-LGE-B (Vol-IV) dated November 3, 2025, relating to the conduct of local government elections in Quetta district, have been suspended with immediate effect until further orders. The ECP said the suspension will remain in force until the competent authority issues further directions.
