Bahrain: Housewife Caught With Marijuana Hidden In Sweets

A Bahraini housewife has landed in the dock at the High Criminal Court for attempting to smuggle nearly 200 grams of marijuana into the country, cleverly hidden in a parcel of sweets and food items. The court has scheduled the hearing for 30 December, ordering the suspect to remain in custody and appointing a defence lawyer to represent her. Prosecutors stated that the parcel, sent from a European country, arrived at Bahrain International Airport and was flagged during an X-ray scan due to an unusual mass inside. Upon inspection, authorities found food items and confectionery alongside small bags and containers holding a herbal substance weighing approximately 194.15 grams, suspected to be marijuana. The following day, the suspect came to collect the parcel, claiming it contained cosmetics. When opened before her, she admitted the contents were marijuana and revealed that an Asian national had asked her to collect the package. The Public Prosecution charged her with importing marijuana and possessing cannabis, also known as hashish, for personal use.
