Sara mum on Teves visit, denies knowing alleged 'bagman'

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte reiterated that she did not know her alleged bagman and neither confirmed nor denied reports that she visited jailed former congressman Arnolfo Teves inside Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig. She also refused to give a Christmas message to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as she believed his demeanor would not change. In a press briefing in Davao City on Thursday, Duterte stressed that she did not know self-confessed intelligence analyst Ramil Madriaga who claimed that he was part of the campaign team of the then Davao City mayor in 2022. Madriaga, through his affidavit, said that he allegedly received money from Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGOs) to fund Duterte's campaign and that he also received confidential funds from Col. Raymund Lachica, former Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group chief. He also claimed that the Vice President visited him in Camp Bagong Diwa, though Interior Secretary Juanito Victor Remulla said that it was Teves, and not Madriaga, whom Duterte visited. Teves is facing charges for the alleged assassination of former Negros Oriental governor Roel Degamo. "Wala akong iko-confirm at ide-deny Kung gusto nila sila ang magsalita, Basta ang sinasabi ko, hindi ko kilala si Ramil Madriaga, (I will neither confirm nor deny, They could speak about it, but I am saying, I don't know Ramil Madriaga), " Duterte said. She also did not talk on how many times she visited Teves in the facility. Meanwhile, Duterte did not give any Christmas message to Marcos, saying that he will never change even if she gave him a message. "And in the same vein, magbabago ba yung ugali ko kung Christmas o hindi? So kung ayaw ko siya batiin kahapon na hindi Christmas, ayaw ko siya batiin ngayon na Pasko,(In the same vein, would I change my demeanor if its Christmas or not? So I don't want to greet him yesterday which is not yet Christmas, more so I won't greet him today)," Duterte said.
