"India's renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has created the 'world's largest' Santa Clause installation made from apples and sand on Niladri Beach, blending festive cheer with a heartfelt plea for global peace. Footage filmed on Christmas Eve shows beachgoers gathering around as Pattnaik assembled the sculpture alongside his students. The installation depicts Santa holding a globe inscribed with a message reading 'world peace'. "Every year during Christmas, we create some unique sand art installations. This year, we have created the world's biggest Apple Santa Claus, with an installation on sand," Pattnaik explained. According to Pattnaik, almost 1.5 tons of apples were used to complete the sculpture, which measures about 6.7 metres in height, 13.7 metres in width and 18.3 metres in length. "I think this will be a very unique art form where we use with sand art with the apple and we also given the message for the world peace," he added. Almost 30 students from Pattnaik's Sand Art Institute took part in the activity. Visitors at the iconic seaside location were left amazed after seeing the unique art form. "This creativity is very good. This is made from apple and sand. Very nice creativity. First time I seen this type of work," one onlooker commented. Patnaik, who has been awarded with India's fourth-highest civilian honour, the Padma Shri, said the fruit will be distributed as gifts. In a Facebook post, the World Records Book of India congratulated Patnaik, writing: 'From imagination to a WORLD RECORD.' Last year, Pattnaik and his students crafted a giant Santa Claus sculpture from sand and chocolate bars on the same beach. In 2018, he drew attention to pollution by building a massive installation made from 10,000 discarded plastic bottles."
