"Shanghai’s Yaoxue Ice and Snow World opened its doors to dogs on Thursday, hosting a pet-only snow day that turned the indoor ski resort into a temporary playground for the four-legged canines and their owners. Footage captured from inside the venue shows dogs running through artificial snow, playing alongside their owners, and riding China’s first indoor 'Snow Country Train'. Organisers said the event was aimed at giving pets a chance to experience snow, a rare opportunity for many dogs in China, where most major cities see little or none. "Taking fur babies to play in the snow has always been a wish for many pet owners, yet there are very few places where it is possible," said the organiser. The pet-friendly event featured designated play areas where dogs could roam freely, pose for photos, and take part in winter-themed activities. Held over two days, the event was welcomed by the furry companions and their owners. "The main thing is they rarely see snow," said a visitor, adding that many of her friends would love to come to the next event. Around 200 dog groups, accompanied by an estimated 300 to 400 owners, reportedly attended the event, which was held as a Christmas-themed carnival. Located in Shanghai’s Lingang district, the facility spans nearly 99,000 square metres, about the size of 12 football fields, and holds a Guinness World Records title as the world’s largest indoor snow resort. One of the highlights at the venue is a ‘snow dome’, featuring four professionally designed ski runs that descend a vertical drop of 60 metres. With temperatures held at minus five degrees Celsius and snow available year-round, the resort has become increasingly popular as interest in winter sports rises. China's CCTV reports that about 360 million people in China participate in winter sports. The resort also doubles as a comprehensive entertainment hub, boasting the adjacent all-weather L+SNOW Water World for aquatic thrills and a number of hotels."
