ILIGAN CITY — Three members of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered to authorities on Christmas Eve, the Army said. In a statement, the Army’s 4th Infantry Division (4ID) said the guerrillas turned themselves in to the 23rd Infantry Battalion (23IB) in Buenavista town, Agusan del Norte, on Dec. 24, bringing with them a firearm and ammunition. “The former rebels said their decision was driven by their desire to reunite with their families and begin a peaceful and lawful life, especially during the Christmas season when the longing for home and family is strongest,” the Army said.
