Fajardo resignation 'natural flow of things' as Ombudsman ready to take over flood control probe

MANILA, Philippines — The Office of the Ombudsman said the resignation of Rossana Fajardo from the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) was a "natural flow of things" as it was now ready to take on the task of investigating anomalous flood control projects. Fajardo stepped down on Friday, the third member of the ICI to do so after Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, who was designated ICI special investigator, and former Public Works secretary Rogelio Singson, who was also ICI commissioner. In a statement on Saturday, Assistant Ombudsman Jose Dominic Clavano IV said that the ICI was established during the transition at the Office of the Ombudsman. "Now, with a new Ombudsman ready to take on the task, the ICI was quick to relay their referrals for further fact-finding and/or preliminary investigation," Clavano said. Clavano, however, said that the ICI officials did not have immunity from suit, thus their exposure was high, especially for those who head the commission. "In that context, it was quite noble for private individuals to even take on such a daunting task so significant in our country’s history," Clavano said.
