"Hundreds of protesters from the youth-movement group Inqilab Mancha continued to stage a sit-in at a key intersection in Dhaka on Friday, demanding justice for the slain activist Sharif Osman Hadi. Footage shows protesters gathering at the Shahbagh intersection and chanting Hadi's name. Huge banners of the activists can also be seen hanging from buildings as demonstrators waved Bangladeshi flags. "We will spread the movement and mass gathering that has started in Shahbagh demanding justice from today, the 26th, across the country," said Naim Islam, a member of Inqilab Mancha. Protesters criticised the current interim government for failing to find the assailants responsible for Hadi's death and not implementing reforms sooner. "As long as the current interim government is unable to bring the real murderer before the people, this peaceful and democratic movement will continue across the country," added Islam. "The last thing the people of the country wanted was for this government to remain in power for a few more days. We did not want this government just for votes, we wanted reforms in the country under this government, and the murderers to be tried," said an activist. Hadi, founder of the Inqilab Mancha movement and prominent youth leader who played a key role in the 2024 uprising that forced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from power, died in the hospital from gunshot wounds sustained in an attack on December 12. The police investigation is underway. Hadi's death triggered a fresh wave of widespread protests across the country, with demonstrators calling for justice and accountability for his killing. His death comes just days after Bangladeshi authorities announced a date for the country's first elections since the 2024 uprising."
