"Somalia's Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Daoud Aweis, during an address from Mogadishu on Saturday, denounced Israel's claim to recognise Somaliland and outrightly rejected the attack on its sovereignty. "Somalia categorically and unequivocally rejects the deliberate attack on its sovereignty and the unlawful step by Israel, purporting to recognise the northern region of Somalia," he said. "Somalia is a single, indivisible sovereign state, under no external actor has the authority or standing to alter its unity or territorial configuration," Aweis added. The minister also warned of broader regional consequences, that 'illegitimate actions' might put on danger 'regional peace and stability' this provoking tensions "in the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, the Middle East and the wider region". "Such actions contravene the collective responsibilities of states to combat terrorism, including Al Shabaab and ISIS, and risk creating enabling conditions for terrorist groups to exploit political instability and undermine ongoing peace and security efforts," Aweis concluded. This comes after Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Friday that Israel and Somaliland had signed a joint declaration to establish full diplomatic relations, describing the move as being 'in the spirit of the Abraham Accords', the US-brokered agreements normalising ties between Israel and several Arab states. Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991 but has not been recognised by any United Nations member state. Somalia has consistently rejected Somaliland's independence claims."
