ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday expressed deep sorrow over the sad passing of former State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) governor Dr Shamshad Akhtar. In a condolence message, the President paid tribute to her services in the field of economics and financial management, noting her contribution to strengthening economic governance in the country. The President prayed for the elevation of the departed soul’s ranks and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. In his statement, the Prime Minister described Akhtar as a distinguished economist and a capable, honest personality who brought laurels to Pakistan through her service. He noted that she had rendered outstanding services at the State Bank of Pakistan as well as other key national and international institutions. PM Shehbaz Sharif said Dr Shamshad’s contributions to stabilising the country’s economy and strengthening the financial sector would always be remembered. Praying for the departed soul, he prayed to Almighty to grant her a special place in Jannah and give her family the strength and patience to bear this irreparable loss.
