Easterlies prevail in Visayas, Mindanao; northeast monsoon affects Luzon

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Sunday the easterlies will affect Visayas, Mindanao and Palawan, while the northeast monsoon or amihan will prevail in Luzon. Eastern Visayas, Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the easterlies, with possible flash floods or landslides during periods of moderate to heavy rainfall. Batanes and Cagayan will have cloudy skies with light rains brought by the northeast monsoon. Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon may see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains also caused by the northeast monsoon. Meanwhile, the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies, with localized flash floods or landslides possible during severe thunderstorms.
