"Pro-Palestinian demonstrators marched through the streets of Milan on Saturday, following the arrest of members of the Palestinian Association of Italy (API), who authorities accuse of financing Hamas. Footage shows protesters gathering outside the Duomo Cathedral, holding placards reading 'Save Gaza from starvation', 'Stop genocide in Gaza', 'Free Barghouti' and 'It all started in 1948'. One demonstrator displayed a sign in support of Palestinian paediatrician Hussam Abu Safiya, who, protesters said, has been detained in Israel for a year without charge or trial. “All of us here in this square in Milan, as thousands of people throughout Italy have contributed what they can with their wages to help families in Gaza,” one protester said. “If this is terrorism, it may be a cliche, but we are all terrorists.” On Friday, Italy’s counter-terrorism forces carried out raids and arrested nine people, including the organisation’s president, Mohammed Hannoun, a Palestinian architect. “We are not sad, we are very angry,” he said, blaming what he described as Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s “genocidal government that bowed to the interests of Israeli Zionism”. Another elderly protester said the demonstrations had become a daily fixture. “Since June 16, more than six months, we have been here every evening, from 6:00 to 7:00, in solidarity with Palestine and also to raise awareness among people passing by,” she said. “The people are with Palestine. They are against genocide. Unfortunately, governments still show no signs of humanity.” Italian police said the nine suspects were arrested on suspicion of raising around €7 million for Hamas over more than two years. Authorities allege that funds collected as humanitarian aid for Palestinian civilians were instead transferred to the group through what they described as a 'complex fundraising system'."
