From book to reality! - Snow recreation of fictional Cloud Top Palace opens to visitors on China's Changbai Mountain

"Hundreds flocked to Changbai Mountain in China's Jilin province on Friday for the opening of the snow large-scale recreation of Cloud Top Palace in Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture. Footage filmed on Friday shows the massive snow palace by day and illuminated at night, accompanied by a light show and fireworks as visitors gathered to take photographs. "It was incredibly awe-inspiring. Seeing it in person was completely different from photos or even the naked eye. Visiting the site revealed that the Heavenly Palace was even more spectacular and magnificent," said one of the visitors. The sculpture measures about 70 metres in length, 28 metres in height and around 50 metres in width, according to organisers. Constructed using nearly 100,000 cubic metres of snow, the Cloud Top Palace is considered a must-visit site at Changbai Mountain during the winter season. The attraction also holds cultural significance as a key setting in 'Daomu Biji' (The Grave Robbers' Chronicles), a popular Chinese novel series about tomb-raiding adventures that has been adapted into films and television series and has gained a wide readership in China. "I came to the Cloud Top Palace for two main reasons. First, I had read The 'Daomu Biji' [a famous Chinese novel series], which featured a clue leading to this place, so I was expecting to see it for myself. Second, I brought my mom to Changbai Mountain for a trip, and the Cloud Top Palace is a must-visit spot," the visitor added. The sculpture is seen as the centrepiece of the 2025-2026 Changbai Mountain Winter Tourism Season and forms part of the 'Ice and Snow Gallery.'"
