Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi on Sunday clarified that the PCB will manage Multan Sultans this year under Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules, with the franchise management to be announced in the next few days. The PCB chairman said this during a press conference in Lahore, where he made several key announcements regarding the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Multan Sultans, youth cricket, fitness issues, and upcoming series. He emphasised that the PCB’s primary focus remains on the promotion of cricket and the discovery of new talent. In response to a query, the PCB chief also asserted that any engagement with India will be on an equal footing, stating that if Indian players do not wish to shake hands, Pakistan has no desire to do so either. Naqvi revealed that the bidding for two new PSL teams will take place on January 8, expressing hope that the new franchises will be sold at a good price to benefit Pakistan, specially after. He announced that former national team captain Wasim Akram has been appointed as the brand ambassador for the PSL. Furthermore, he expressed his desire to commence the next edition of the PSL on March 23. Regarding domestic and youth development, Naqvi mentioned that training camps for Pakistan Shaheens and various age-group teams have been established, showing improved performance. To address fitness concerns, he announced that Dr Javed Mughal will assume his responsibilities on January 11. He highlighted that school cricket in Lahore and Faisalabad has been completed, reinforcing the board’s focus on youth cricket as the primary source for future stars. The PCB chairman also urged news channels to provide coverage to other sports for their promotion and said that he would raise this matter with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. To a query, he said Ali Tareen, former owner of Multan Sultans, is free to participate in the bidding of PSL teams. Additionally, he confirmed that the upcoming series between Pakistan and Australia will consist of three T20Is, and a decision regarding the red ball coach will be made soon.
