Chikungunya case involving woman who visited Guangdong

The Centre for Health Protection on Sunday reported a new imported case of chikungunya fever. The patient is a 35-year-old woman who joined a package tour to Zhaoqing in Guangdong province from December 20 to 21, and was bitten by mosquitoes there. The Kwai Tsing District resident is now in stable condition at Princess Margaret Hospital. Three of her family members who were also in Zhaoqing are asymptomatic, and health authorities said they will contact 39 others on the same tour. This raised to 82 the number of cases of the mosquito-borne disease in Hong Kong this year. Eleven of them were local cases and the rest imported infections.
