MANILA, Philippines — A grade 5 student died while a grade 7 student was injured after the firecrackers they picked up along the street exploded in Tondo, Manila, according to the Manila Police District (MPD). The incident occurred near the corner of Lorenzo Street and Abad Santos Avenue at around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, the police said. The MPD did not identify the victims, but said they were both 12 years old and residents of Tondo.
