KARACHI: Commissioner of Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi, has taken notice of professional beggars at traffic signals, intersections and markets, and directed DCs for crackdowns. DC, East, Nasrullah Abbasi and DC, South, Javed Nabi Khoso initiated operations in their districts against the beggars. In their reports submitted to the Commissioner, it was stated that on Saturday, actions were taken in various sub divisions of the district East and district South with the support of local police, 84 beggars were arrested. Assistant Commissioner Gulraz e Hajri Irfan Nizamani conducted the action in the East district, while Assistant Commissioner Civil Lines Ahmed Murtaza and Assistant Commissioner Saddar Rana Sofiyan carried out operations in the South district. According to the Deputy Commissioners’ reports, a total of 84 beggars were arrested; 37 beggars from the East district and 47 from the South district. All the beggars were loaded in buses by Assistant Commissioner Gulraz e Hajri Irfan Nizamani and handed over to the Edhi Home.
