KARACHI: Saeed Ghani, President Pakistan Peoples Party, Karachi Division and Sindh Minister for Labour, Human Resources and Social Protection has congratulated the newly-elected body of the Karachi Press Club. In a statement issued on Sunday, Saeed Ghani extended his felicitations to the Democrats Panel for its victory once again in the Karachi Press Club elections. It has been consecutively winning KPC elections over last 18 years. He congratulated Fazil Jamili on being elected as President, Irshad Khokhar as Vice President, Muhammad Aslam Khan as Secretary, Muhammad Farooq Sami as Joint Secretary, and Imran Ayub as Treasurer. He also congratulated the newly-elected members of the Governing Body: Abdul Jabbar Nasir, Akhtar Hussain Soomro, Sheema Siddiqui, Faryal Arif, Javed Saba, Syed Farid Alam and Javed Mehr. Saeed Ghani said the Karachi Press Club holds historic significance as many journalistic movements originated from this platform, and it has played a pivotal role in journalists’ historic struggles for their rights. He expressed hope that new KPC body would play an active role in the welfare of journalists and in upholding journalistic values. He stated that the Pakistan Peoples Party is the only political party in the country that has consistently championed freedom of the press. He recalled that Benazir Bhutto was the first leader to allot residential plots to the journalists associated with the Karachi Press Club. And, this tradition has been continued by President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. “We are the founders and have been struggling for free and independent journalism,” Saeed Ghani said.
