Karachi likely to receive first winter shower from tomorrow: Met Office

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that Karachi is likely to experience the first winter rain and drizzle for two days, starting tomorrow. According to the latest advisory, a westerly weather system is expected to influence the port city on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing light showers and a noticeable drop in temperature. “A westerly wave likely to enter in west Balochistan from today, and spread over central and upper parts of the country from tomorrow. Under its influence, isolated light rain and drizzle is likely to occur in Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, Dadu, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Thatta, Badin, Tharparker districts and Karachi division on December 30,” the Met Office said. The weather advisory department on Saturday forecast light rain for Karachi and many other parts of Sindh. It also said heavy snowfall is likely to blanket parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Balochistan and Punjab in the next week. The PMD said rain and thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills is predicted in this week. The Met Office predicted that a westerly wave is likely to approach western parts of the country from December 29’s night, and strengthen from December 30, which is expected to grip most upper/central parts on December 31, and persist in upper parts till January 2, 2026. Light rain turns Karachi weather pleasant amid prediction for more rain Under the influence of this weather system, the weather department said, rain-wind/thunderstorm with snowfalls over hills is expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Zhob, Kalat, Barkhan, Sibi, Loralai, Musakhel, Turbat, Gawadar, Jiwani, Awaran, Chagi, Panjgur, Khuzdar, Washuk and Kharan from December 29 to December 31, with occasional gaps. Meanwhile, isolated light rain or drizzle is expected in Sindh’s Karachi, Hyderabad, Dadu, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, Thatta, Badin and surroundings on December 30.
