Claudia Winkleman is gearing up for the latest season of The Traitors A new series of The Traitors is mere days away, and host Claudia Winkleman has promised an exciting tweak to the show’s usual format. The BBC dropped a trailer for series four over Christmas, which depicts a mysterious “Traitor” sporting a red cape, in a switch-up from the garments’ usual green colour, leading to mass theories from fans about what it could all mean. Claudia later added her two cents, telling the BBC : “All I will say is there’s something new, and what happens in this series is truly extraordinary with moments that made me gasp.” “I can’t wait for people to see it,” she added. “The people who create the show, they have to keep on changing it… They tell me ideas, and I’m like, ‘Are you joking?’ So, yeah, I love it.” After the undeniable success of the celebrity version of The Traitors (its opening episode becoming the biggest single episode on TV so far this year ), Claudia has promised the upcoming civilian series “gets pretty twisty”. And forget cliches about British politeness, she also says we can expect some “hardcore” showdowns between contestants. “We get some very juicy roundtables,” Claudia explained. “It gets very heated... it gets ugly. We’ve never seen it played like this brilliant cast play it. “They play it in such an extraordinary way. You think, I’ve seen this, it’s going to go down this route – and all I can say is it absolutely doesn’t.” While the show typically sees Claudia select “Traitors” at the very start of the game, with the odd “Faithful” getting recruited later down the line, the red cloak and Claudia’s promise of a twist have sparked speculation that this familiar setup could be about to change. Could the mysterious red cloak come with new power, the likes of which the show has never seen? Will series four see a different set of rules? Was it actually all just a Christmassy style choice? We’ll have to wait until New Year’s Day to find out. It was recently confirmed that we’ll be getting 12 hour-long episodes of The Traitors series four, with episode two airing the day after the premiere on Friday 2 January. We’ll see 22 contestants take to the iconic Scottish castle to beg, steal and borrow their way to the prize pot of £120,000 . The Traitors airs on BBC One and iPlayer at 8pm on 1 January.
