"A new edition of the traditional 'Fair of Wishes' opened on Saturday in Lima's Jesus Maria district, drawing hundreds of visitors wishing to start the new year with good luck and positive vibes. Footage filmed on Saturday shows visitors strolling through the fair, browsing miniature wish figures known as alasitas, alongside displays of stones, candles and natural quartz. In its 27th year, the fair brings together ancestral highland traditions focused on wellbeing, prosperity and good fortune. "Ours is a border region between Peru and Bolivia, where faith in miniatures and wishes runs strong. Along the streets, people find small cars or houses, symbols of what they desire most - home, family, children. This tradition goes back many years, passed down from our ancestors," said a vendor. The event offers amulets, cleansing baths and energy rituals, which visitors turn to in hopes of attracting health, love, prosperity and success in the year ahead. Vendors say each item symbolises a deeply held wish of the buyer, with the ritual to make it come true beginning the moment it is purchased. "If someone wants to own a house or property, they come with that desire and choose a miniature model of the house or property they want. It can be any size or style they imagine. They buy the miniature, and we give them all the purchase documents as well, so that the wish of the person seeking their little house can one day become reality," said one of the vendors. The Fair of Wishes will run till February 8, 2026, offering a tradition that combines ancestral Andean culture with visitors' expectations for the New Year."
