"Argentina's Corrientes province is grappling with a deepening crisis after days of intense storms brought exceptional rainfall, triggering widespread flooding, mass evacuations and emergency response operations. Footage filmed on Monday shows submerged streets, with residents using boats to salvage belongings and carry out rescues. Authorities declared a state of emergency and opened shelters for those affected, with more than 400 people evacuated across the province. The town of San Luis del Palmar, located about 30 km north of the provincial capital, was among the hardest hit, after at least 400 millimetres of rain fell in the past 48 hours, overwhelming drainage systems and triggering severe flooding. "No, there are no neighbours left here, they have all already left," said Ariel Lozano, a resident of the town, who remained in the area trying to save his belongings. "And what I could rescue, I rescued, and my wardrobe and my refrigerator were ruined, because I could not save them anymore, because all of a sudden the water came," said another resident. Civil Defence teams, firefighters, police and other agencies on the ground assist those affected, delivering food, clothing and basic medical care at evacuation centres. The National Meteorological Service issued a storm alert, warning that heavy rain could continue in the coming hours, with the risk of intense rainfall, lightning, hail and strong wind gusts."
