"Miners from the Departmental Federation of Mining Cooperatives of Cochabamba (Fidecomin) joined the national mobilisations of the Bolivian Workers Centre (COB) to demand the repeal of Decree 5503, which removes fuel subsidies. Footage filmed on Monday in Cochabamba shows hundreds of protesters marching toward the city centre to denounce Supreme Decree 5503, issued by President Rodrigo Paz. "Here we have a single demand: the repeal of the damn Decree 5503. Today, mining cooperatives are beginning this struggle, and we will not back down," said a miner. "We are going to take more drastic measures, which may include mobilisations and road blockades. We will define that later," he added. Protesters emphasised that Decree 5503 is 'unconstitutional' and harmful to Bolivians due to its effect on fuel prices, calling on President Rodrigo Paz to repeal it. "Through this mobilisation, we are demanding the repeal of this decree, which is unconstitutional. We call on President Rodrigo Paz to revoke it immediately, as his governance is failing all Bolivians, particularly the humble people who live day to day," explained another protester. Decree 5503, enacted last week by President Rodrigo Paz, introduced new fuel prices, with regular petrol at 6.96 bolivianos per litre ($1.01), premium petrol at 11 bolivianos ($1.59), and diesel at 9.80 bolivianos ($1.42). The government warned that the worker-led mobilisations and allied protests could have a political agenda, a claim rejected by demonstrators. Protests are set to continue as officials from the Executive are expected to respond to calls for the repeal of the decree."
