YouTuber Rajab Butt registers FIR against lawyers over Karachi court assault

A case has been registered pertaining to the assault on YouTuber Rajab Butt within the premises of a Karachi Sessions Court, where he is facing charges of hurting religious sentiments, Aaj News reported. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the incident occurred on Monday at the Sessions Court Central, where Butt appeared as his interim bail had expired on December 20. Following the hearing, around 15 to 20 lawyers reportedly attacked him, subjected him to violence, and snatched his bag containing 300,000 rupees. The FIR states that while a lawyer later helped recover the bag, the cash was missing. Butt also reportedly received death threats. Mian Ali Ashfaq, counsel for Butt, took to social media to condemn the assault, labelling the behaviour of the lawyers within the Karachi City Court premises as unprofessional and damaging to the reputation of the legal fraternity. He stated that taking the law into one’s own hands is unacceptable in a civilised society and warned that such behaviour would negatively impact the respect commanded by lawyers. Another individual in the footage asserted that the treatment was a direct consequence of his alleged misbehaviour and use of offensive language toward the legal community. Tiktoker Nadeem Mubarak, popularly known as “Nani Wala,” was also present at the scene. It is pertinent to mention that both Butt and Mubarak are facing various cases. They returned to Pakistan from London on December 10 after the Islamabad High Court granted them 10-day protective bail following a petition by their families. The Sessions Court has now extended Butt’s interim bail until January 13. Background of the case The legal proceedings stem from a complaint filed by Solangi in January at the Hyderi Market Police Station under Section 295-A of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). The complainant alleged that in December 2024, he viewed a viral video in which Butt was purportedly seen offering prayers (Salah) with music playing in the background.
