Taiwan total blockade - China concludes 'Justice Mission 2025' drills simulating encirclement of island's major ports

"China concluded its massive two-day military drills 'Justice Mission 2025' by simulating the most extensive blockade of Taiwan and strikes on maritime targets. Footage released on Tuesday shows the People's Liberation Army (PLA) carrying out long-range live-fire operations in waters north of Taiwan. The second day of the drills included 10 hours of live-fire drills across five maritime and airspace zones surrounding the island, along with air and sea patrols, simulated precision strikes, and anti-submarine manoeuvres, according to the reports. "These exercises tested the capabilities of sea-air coordination and integrated blockade and control. The objective is the blockade of key ports and areas to achieve all-dimensional deterrence both inside and outside the island chain," said a spokesperson for the PLA Eastern Theatre Command, Senior Colonel Shi Yi. In a statement, the PLA Eastern Theatre Command said the operations began at 9 a.m. on Tuesday and achieved what it described as 'desired effects.' The drills began on Monday and came as a response after the United States approved an $11.1 billion arms package for Taiwan - the largest in the island's history - including HIMARS rocket systems and long-range drones. Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, spokesperson Lin Jian called the multi-service exercises a 'severe punishment' for what he described as Taiwan's 'separatist forces,' adding that the drills were aimed at safeguarding Beijing's national security. Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence condemned the exercises as an 'irrational provocation,' saying it had activated a response centre, deployed appropriate forces, and conducted rapid-response drills to monitor and counter PLA activity. The location and the date of filming could not be independently verified by the agency."
