Hands across the sea - UAE aid ship docks in Egypt’s El Arish ahead of Gaza relief delivery

"Footage captured on Tuesday shows Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s humanitarian ship docking at Egypt’s El Arish port, carrying thousands of tonnes of aid bound for Gaza. The shipment is part of Operation Chivalrous Knight, launched by the United Arab Emirates to support Palestinians in Gaza. The footage shows the aid-laden vessel anchored at the port as preparations get underway to transport its cargo onward to Gaza. Director of the Logistics Centre for Operation Chivalrous Knight in El Arish, Rashid Al Habsi, said the ship’s arrival shows the UAE’s continued humanitarian commitment to the people of Gaza, noting the ‘sustained effort and dedication’. Secretary General of the Emirates Red Crescent, Ahmed Sari Al Mazrouei, said the ship is carrying approximately 10,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid. He noted that the UAE now accounts for 46 percent of total international aid delivered to Gaza, with a total value exceeding 2.6 billion US dollars. On November 25, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced an initiative to equip a ship with supplies to provide more than 10 million meals for the people of Gaza, according to local media. The UAE launched Operation Chivalrous Knight on November 5, 2023, following directives from President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, after the outbreak of the war between Israel and Hamas on October 7.
