Dr Yasmin Rashid’s plea challenging Nawaz’s 2024 general elections victory dismissed

LAHORE: An election tribunal on Tuesday dismissed a petition of a PTI leader Dr Yasmin Rashid on technical ground challenging President PML-N Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif’s victory from Lahore NA-130 in the 2024 general elections. The tribunal, comprising retired Justice Rana Zahid Mahmood, said under the Election Act, 2017, the petitioner failed to comply with the requirements of filing election petition. Dr Yasmin in her petition stated that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued the notification of Nawaz’s victory in violation of the law. She claimed that results were manipulated in favour of the PML-N President. She prayed to tribunal to set aside the victory of the former prime minister and to declare her a returned candidate. The court after hearing arguments from both sides, declared the notification of Nawaz’s victory from NA-130 Lahore as valid. Nawaz Sharif had won the NA-130 seat by securing 171,024 votes, while Dr Yasmin Rashid, had bagged 115,043 votes. Copyright Business Recorder, 2025
