"Residents of the Gaza Strip shared their hopes for the new year amid the catastrophic humanitarian situation, brutal winter and extensive flooding. Footage filmed on Tuesday shows Palestinians walking through the Al-Rimal commercial area in central Gaza City, which is coming back to life despite widespread destruction in the surrounding area. Palestinians said they hope to see the start of reconstruction, improvements in living conditions, and the return of children to school after two years out of education. "I hope there will be education for the children of Gaza and that schools reopen, because the children are now on the streets, displaced," said a resident. "All I wish for Gaza is a real breakthrough - humanitarian, political, and in living conditions for the people. Winter has been especially tragic," added another. "The most important thing, thank God, is that we can say the bloodshed has stopped. This is the most important thing, and hopefully in the new year the cessation of bloodshed will be fully maintained," added the third. Meanwhile, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) reported on Monday that the current weather conditions in the Palestinian territories have affected "more than a quarter of a million displaced people." The agency noted that "17 people, including four children, have died, while about 90 per cent of the displaced persons' shelters were flooded" since the onset of the December storms in Gaza. Hamas and Israel reached a ceasefire agreement that came into effect on October 10 under the framework of the 'Trump Plan', which consists of 20 points. Its key provisions include an immediate halt to the fighting, the release of all hostages - both living and deceased - and the entry of humanitarian aid. Since the start of the conflict in 2023, at least 71,266 Palestinians were killed, and more than 171,000 were injured. "
