Chief Executive John Lee said the government would focus on improving people’s well-being and sense of security, as well as strengthening innovation and technology development in the coming year. In his New Year’s message, Lee described 2025 as a challenging yet resilient year, noting that the city experienced both the strong momentum of economic recovery and the sorrow brought by the Wang Fuk Court fire in Tai Po. He said the government would work hand in hand with the people of Hong Kong to integrate “reform and dynamism” into efforts to boost economic development and enhance people’s livelihoods in 2026. The CE also pledged to accelerate the construction of public housing and implement the registration of basic housing units. Lee said the administration would work to improve medical and education resources and speed up technological development and application, among other key goals for 2026.
