Xi calls for new momentum as China enters next phase of development

Xi Jinping has called on China to begin 2026 with “bold strides” as the country completes the 14th Five-Year Plan and enters a new stage in its modernisation effort. Speaking on national television on New Year’s Eve, the Chinese President said the achievements of 2025 had laid a foundation for long-term growth and national unity. “Let us charge ahead like horses with courage, vitality and energy,” Xi said in his address, marking the start of the 15th Five-Year Plan. “We should take solid steps to promote high-quality development, further deepen reform and opening up, and deliver prosperity for all.”
