MMDA suspends coding for New Year

THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said its official social media pages will be temporarily offline from 8 p.m. on Dec. 31 until 6 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2026. The MMDA said the expanded number coding scheme will be suspended on Jan. 1 and Jan. 2 and will resume on Jan. 5. Motorists were advised to plan their routes accordingly, as traffic is expected to be lighter during the suspension but heavier near major celebration areas. Traffic monitoring and road assistance, it added, will continue during this period. The agency advised motorists and the public to call the MMDA Hotline 136 for urgent concerns regarding traffic conditions, road assistance, traffic regulations, and other related services. It urged the public to avoid firecrackers and use alternative noise-making devices in celebrating the New Year. The MMDA said it would coordinate with local authorities and emergency responders to monitor high-risk areas and provide assistance as needed.
