Prime Minister Petteri Orpo said Finland will impose further spending cuts if required by the European Union, admitting in his New Year’s message that government finances remain under pressure despite earlier adjustment measures. Orpo said the country’s economy had not followed forecasted growth paths. “Time and again, the predictions have been wrong,” he stated. He added that even with €10 billion in budget adjustments already made, spending still exceeds revenue.
