LUCENA CITY—After a generally quiet December, Taal Volcano in Batangas began the new year with a noticeable increase in seismic activity, recording 51 volcanic earthquakes over the past 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported on Thursday. In its morning bulletin, Phivolcs said the earthquakes were accompanied by 13 volcanic tremors, each lasting between one and three minutes.
